Pathways to Your Financial Destination               

Through the services that Financial Foundations, individuals gain the resources, confidence and commitment to set and achieve their short and long term goals.  As a department of the John H. Boner Community Center, Financial Foundations has the capacity to provide services that address needs along a continuum – from crisis intervention to asset development and wealth creation.

Pathways to Your Financial Destination  is designed for individuals interested in learning more about financial matters have access to timely and practical financial information. To accommodate as many schedules as possible, our financial educational workshops are offered on a monthly basis.  These workshops are offered during the day, evenings, and weekends.  Our financial workshop topics include basic money management, financial account management, credit basics, saving for children’s education, and retirement.  In addition to these basic topics, asset specific training (home ownership, post-purchase counseling, foreclosure prevention, business ownership and advanced investment vehicles) opportunities are also available.

Financial Subjects Covered

Financial visioning – In today’s hustle and bustle, the opportunity to define financial visions for our self and household can be a daunting task.  However it is extremely important to have this clear picture of where you are headed.  Workshop activities are designed to assist in crafting a pristine financial vision.

How to set financial goals – S.M.A.R.T goals are a critical step in achieving one’s financial visions.  Workshop activities encourage concrete thinking and drafting of goals that are clearly defined and measurable.

How to build effective spending plans – Spending plans are built on a keen understanding of one’s spending choices, sources of income, and types of expenses.  Workshop attendees will participate in hands-on activities that encourage investigation of their spending habits, household income, as well as monthly and occasional expenses.  Participants will leave the session having defined a monthly spending plan to begin tracking monthly spending activities.  Armed with this knowledge one can refine the spending plan to reflect true habits as well as refine their spending decisions and develop a plan that will support financial goal and vision achievement.

The basics of credit– Credit is all around us; and in many cases we at one time or another need to access credit.  Understanding this tool for building our financial visions can be the difference between achieve one’s financial visions in a timely manner.  Workshop activities support the understanding of the various forms of credit, how to manage credit, and determine one health credit capacity. In addition participants will understand learn how to pull and review their credit report.

The basics of savings and investing – Workshop session explores the importance of a regular savings habit.  Participants will learn the various savings vehicles.  Facilitator’s will share how savings and investing can give a sense of direction to one’s finances when approached with one’s vision in mind.

The importance of protection – This workshop session explores the topic of insurance and its importance.  Participants will learn about the various types of asset protection products, how to evaluate these products, as well as how much protection one might need.
