Transportation Services for Individuals

John Boner Neighborhood Center offers transportation services to those enrolled in our programs. This alternative transportation option offers residents and program participants from the Near Eastside a safe and economical means to travel during regular outings or for special program activities.

Regular transportation hours for program participants are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In addition, transportation services are provided upon special request on evenings and weekends.

Vehicles available range from 16-passenger shuttle buses to school buses (40-60 passenger capacity pending participant type), and are all wheelchair accessible.

Afterschool Transporation

Youth transportation services are provided to youth participating in our EDGE Programs as a means to support families with working parents, multiple children, or a lack of reliable and timely transportation. This service plays an important role in providing youth the means to engage in multiple hands-on learning experiences.

If your child is enrolled in our EDGE Afterschool program at Brookside Elementary School, Thomas Gregg Neighborhood School, and URBAN ACT Academy they will have access to daily transportation home at the end of the day. Or if they participate in our EDGE Summer Camp, they will be provided with daily transportation to summer camp programming, learning opportunities, and field trips in the community and throughout Indiana. Youth will also have access to transportation to the Boner Fitness & Learning Center for any additional programming activities.

Employment Transporation

Short-term transportation services are available for those seeking employment, supporting their job search or transportation needs to a new employment.

During times of seeking employment, we provide a comprehensive team approach to support job seekers; we understand that the cost of public transportation is often too high and having secure and reliable transportation can be tricky. Job seekers are directed to work with a John Boner Neighborhood Centers career coach to establish employment and/or career goals, define action steps, and receive support during job searching to their employment. Transportation services are provided to job seekers and those newly employed with access to assistance in the form of IndyGo bus passes or fuel cards, depending on your situation.

Older Adult Transporation

Older adults are provided with home pick up and drop off services Monday through Friday. Our transportation is normally available for participants to travel to outdoor program activities, learning opportunities, and other community trips as needed.

Our older adult transportation services play an important role in helping individuals participate in programming, be self-sufficient, and maintain more independence when they do not have access to a car or are in need of door-to-door transportation. Many of our older adults use this service to access grocery stores, socialize, and engage in wellness education and screenings.

Individuals with Disabilities Transporation

We have partnered with IndyGo to provide paratransit services to eligible individuals who, because of their disability, cannot navigate the use of fixed services. We provide transport to individuals with disabilities using a taxi-voucher system, for which individuals are reimbursed the cost of the trip after receiving the service.

Through this partnership, the John Boner Neighborhood Centers is able to offer a paratransit reservation-based on-demand response service and increase the number of trips available within the system for those who need it.
